In the first half of 2019, air traffic in the EUROCONTROL area (ECAC) grew on average by 1.7% which corresponds to 495 additional flights per day.
The main drivers of the observed traffic growth in 2019 (Jan-Jun) were charter flights and the continued growth in the low cost traffic segment.
Between January and June 2019, 31 of the Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) included in the analysis reported a traffic increase compared to 2018.
In absolute terms, DSNA (France), ENAV (Italy), ENAIRE (Spain), Croatia Control (Croatia), Austro Control (Austria) and HCAA (Greece) showed the highest year on year growth in the first half of 2019.
Safety data is only available on an annual basis.
More information can be found in Chapter 2 of the latest Performance Review Report.
In the first half of 2019, total en-route ATFM delays in the EUROCONTROL area decreased by 10.1% compared to the same period in 2018. As a result, average en-route ATFM delay per flight decreased from 1.49 in 2018 to 1.32 in 2019.
Compared to the first half of 2018, the decrease is mainly due to less adverse weather and less strikes. Delays attributed to ATC Capacity and Staffing continued to increase compared to the same period in 2018.
Although the average en-route ATFM delay per flight decreased, the share of en-route ATFM delayed flights increased further (+0.5 percent points) to reach 8.4%.
Average en-route delay per flight in the first half of 2019 was highest in DFS/Germany (1.55 min), followed by Austro Control/ Austria (1.50 min), HungaroControl (1.19 min) and skeyes (1.15 min).
The efficiency of actual trajectories decreased slightly to 97.2% between January and June 2019 while the efficiency in the filed flight plans remained unchanged at 95.6%.
Average airport ATFM delays at the top 30 European airports increased from 1.05 to 1.25 minutes per arrival in the first half of 2019, mainly due to airport capacity issues. The highest average airport ATFM delay was observed at Amsterdam Schiphol, followed by Lissbon and Athens.
Economic data is only available on an annual basis and published on the ACE online dashboard.
